Anyone else have an opposite-hood?

Kinja'd!!!

Also, I’m super pumped, because I have a Turner Motorsport chip coming in the next couple of days. +23hp @ 6,000RPM (which is actually just under redline for the autobox) and +23 torque @ 3,000 RPM. Not bad for only $149.

Excellent idea in that it can’t blow up and obscure your vision but doesn’t it have a greater likelihood of cutting your head off in a frontal crash?

When first using your chip, go for a drive with the expectation that it’s not going to do anything. I’ve tried 2 chips now for the m30 (one was a jim c, I can’t remember the other) and neither made much of a difference, if any at all.

Nice e34 btw, would love a wagon but nothing great ever pops up at the right time.

Kinja'd!!!0

I’ll time basic 0-60 going onto the highway before and after to see if there is a measurable difference. This is the M60B30, so the it may have a different result.

And the wagon is fantastic. The rear hatch is incredibly practical. You can open just the window! (Though the shocks are shot, so it will kill you if left unattended for too long)

False. They are cooler yes, but imo less functional, especially when doing radiator related things or *shudders* pulling motors .

Kinja'd!!! Sam > V12 Jake- Hittin' Switches
12/02/2015 at 18:35

Kinja'd!!!0

Oh, we actually did the transmission cooler, which is between the radiator and the A/C condenser (because German). With 2 people, it’s perfectly doable. One person would probably be difficult.

Also, I’m pretty sure it’s standard practice to take the hood off when you pull a motor, forwards or backwards.

or those gullwing hoods on older American cars from the 30s or 40s. Sorry, I don’t know the proper name for them, or what cars they came on.

Kinja'd!!! Sovereign, Purveyor of Coupes > Sam

I had no idea you could open the rear hatch separately, the want just increased a wee bit. There was a e39 540 touring for sale just before I came up with the cash to pick up the jag and I just barely missed out.

The main reason I say expect no gain is that a good number of people tend to feel the placebo effect when tuning their engine. That said if it’s a chip that requires the car to be ran on premium when it previously wasnt there will very likely be some effect, as you’re effectively advancing ignition. I imagine that the m60 runs on premium out of the box though.

The McMerc SLR had probably the best backwards hood. The way it slid forward before coming up was extremely cool.

Kinja'd!!! Sam > Sovereign, Purveyor of Coupes
12/02/2015 at 18:48

Kinja'd!!!1

It’s supposed to be premium, though I get cheap every once in a while and go mid grade. And the TMS chip does say premium is mandatory. Luckily, I’ve driven it for about 20,000 miles, so I will probably butt dyno any difference.

I like the E39, but I like the look of the E34 a bit more, since it looks similar to the iconic E30 everyone loves so much.

E21, they share a lot of design characteristics. Same sharknose era. They’re MiM 1900s, lovely period Italian wheels, pretty rare too, since they were produced specifically for the E21, one of the few wheels that are the correct offset.

Nah I meant the foreground, just asking if it was your car or not. I met a guy with one recently, so so awesome. Such a good example of silly German engineering, but you can’t help but love it.

Does it have that robotic arm for the rear washer sprayer? Couldn’t believe it when I saw it.

I have one, but it only hides cargo space. Engine is in the back.

For a cargo lid, front-hinged is utterly useless except for looking cool.

E34, but yeah the little thing that pops out to spray it is adorable. Look at where the overflow is for the radiator. (Hint: It’s the opposite end of the engine bay from the radiator.

Kinja'd!!!

And the PCV is underneath that, so it has to come off if it needs serviced. Also, the cap with the big bolt shape on it in front of the valve cover is where the oil filter is, which is good German engineering.

the release latch (not the one inside the car) was on the driver’s side, by the windshield. you didn’t have to look too closely to see that the hood was bent up a little more on the driver’s side compared to the pass side, from the repeated openings...
